Vonage Motorola VT2142

This telephone adapter uses by Vonage is also popular and very easy to set up.....

Here is an easy set up instruction on how to install this device.

Step 1: If you happen to buy this device on a retail store, you must have it activated first before start installing it ( call Vonage and provide them the MAC address that can be found at the bottom of the device written on the sticker).

If you ordered the device from Vonage directly. Meaning when you call them to sign up or if you happen to sign up online, you have nothing to worry for it is already activated and ready for set up once you received it.

Make sure that you have a high speed internet connection before we begin. We must determine your existing device set up. Internet service from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), a modem, the device we use to obtain or get internet connection from ISP, a router if you have multiple devices that requires internet connection and you must determined the port that you uses because we need to be sure that it is an ethernet port and not a USB port, for the only thing compatible with the Vonage Motorola VT2142 is an ethernet port.

Step 2: Check the package we need to be sure that everything came inside the box.

Once you have checked everything, then we need to turn off all of your existing devices, the modem, the router (if you have) and your computer.

You will notice that the cables are color coded, and at the back of the Vonage telephone adapter ports are color doded as well.

1. plug in the yellow cable on the yellow port of the Vonage device and trace cable that connects you computer and your modem, unplug the cable from your computer and replace it with the yellow cable that is connected at the back of the Vonage telephone adapter.

2. Get the blue cable connect the other end to the blue port of the Vonage telephone adapter and the other end to the back of your existing modem, unplug the cable that is presently connected to it which happen to be the one that you uses for your computer earlier.

3. Get a telephone, connect the telephone cable in phone line 1 color green port. This will serve as the line where you can get a dial tone.

4. Power up now your devices, beginning with your modem and wait for 60 seconds to have it fully boot up and get internet connection. Once all the lights are solid from your modem, and you are certain that it already have established internet connection, then now is the time to power up the Vonage Motorola VT2142, get the power cable and the power adapter, have it plug in to one of your electrical outlet.

Unlike using Vonage V-portal device for it has an LCD screen that will indicate if your ready to place calls. With Motorola VT2142 the only way for you to know it you are already connected is by checking the lights on it.


Power: when the lights stops blinking and you already have a solid green lights, it only means that you were able to start the device correctly. Red solid or blinking lights could means problem with the device or internet connection, sometimes you need to check the cables if it is tightly connected and try power cycle.

Internet: Solid green lights only means that you are getting internet connection from your modem or router.

Ethernet: It only means that your computer is properly connected to the device if you see a solid green light.

Phone Line 1 and Phone line 2: If you have a solid green light, check the phone that is connected to it, listen if there's a dial tone. Phone line 2 is intended for fax line or if you have multiple telephone number from Vonage.

Remember a device can only carry 2 telephone numbers, If your trying to have more telephone number with Vonage you need to obtain multiple devices.
